What is Velocity?
Velocity is the modern successor to BungeeCord – a proxy server that connects multiple Minecraft servers into a single network. Where BungeeCord reaches its limits with growing player counts or many backend servers, Velocity was designed from the ground up for performance, stability and modern security.
With Velocity, you build Minecraft networks like the large public servers (lobby + survival + minigames + creative) – all reachable through a single IP address. Players connect to the Velocity proxy and are automatically routed to the desired backend server. They can seamlessly switch between servers without disconnecting.
Compared to BungeeCord, Velocity offers significantly better performance with many connections, a more modern plugin API, integrated ModernForwarding for secure IP forwarding and active development. Anyone building a new network today should choose Velocity over BungeeCord. Velocity plugins are their own category – common examples are LuckPerms, MiniMOTD, ViaVersion or Plan.
At Mine-Hoster, you set up Velocity in seconds and link any number of backend servers. The Velocity proxy itself needs few resources – 1-2 GB RAM is usually enough. The actual load is carried by the backend servers (lobby, game servers etc.) that you rent as separate Mine-Hoster servers.
