Spigot has been the standard for plugin-based Minecraft servers for over 10 years. As a fork of CraftBukkit, Spigot has shaped the plugin landscape and remains the foundation that many other server implementations like Paper are built on. If you want classic modded Minecraft with plugins – economy systems, permissions, anti-grief, minigames – Spigot is the reliable classic.

Spigot's biggest advantage is its enormous plugin variety. On SpigotMC, you'll find thousands of free plugins for virtually every use case: WorldGuard for protected areas, EssentialsX for basic server commands, LuckPerms for permissions, Vault for economy integration, mcMMO for RPG skills and much more. The community is huge and active.

Compared to Paper, Spigot has fewer performance patches built in – if you need maximum performance, Paper is the better choice. However, Spigot is lighter and more conservative, which is the better option in some scenarios (e.g. with very old plugins incompatible with Paper).
